Following the recent news about telecommunications giants, such as Google, starting to invest in the energy market, allied to the European Commission's great efforts to combine new technologies with the energy distribution, it is apparent that the co-relation between new technology and energy is strengthening. This opens the question of how this development will translate to the legal and regulatory world, and especially how it will affect consumers.

This white paper analyses the state of convergence between the two major sectors of economy: telecommunications and energy, their co-relation with regards to the smart grids and the challenges this may impose, including the threat posed to personal data protection and security.
